Throughout the day, APTN National News will provide exclusive coverage of community events from across Canada. Journalists will report live, sharing interviews and stories on how our People celebrate National Indigenous Peoples Day in their communities.
The Freedom Walk honours all those who attended the former Shubenacadie residential school. The journey retraces the steps of children who would be released for the summer, ending at the former train station where they’d begin the journey back to their families and communities. The day includes a walk, a feast and conversations with Elders.
The Summer Solstice Indigenous Festival takes place on the traditional and unceded territories of the Algonquin peoples and their descendants. It brings Indigenous artists, performers, educators, students, and community members together to share knowledge and celebrate diverse Indigenous cultures in Canada.
Cette année, le Festival du Voyageur, en partenariat avec l’Union nationale métisse Saint-Joseph du Manitoba et la Maison des artistes, vous propose une fête inoubliable. Au programme: conteurs, musiciens, bouffe et artistes! La soirée vise à mettre en avant la diversité des artistes franco-autochtones. La Maison des artistes mettra en vedette l’artiste Jamie Black.
For the last 17 years, the Manitoba Métis Federation has hosted a National Indigenous Peoples Day event in Selkirk Park in Selkirk, Manitoba. The celebration includes a pancake breakfast, ceremonies, a BBQ, Red River Métis entertainment, MMF department and affiliate booths, and a Red River Métis market.
Join the celebration in Moody Park, hosted by the Spirit of the Children Society, Qayqayt First Nation, and the City of New Westminster. The free all-ages gathering features cultural entertainment, physical activities, arts and crafts, Indigenous vendors, and captivating storytelling.
The Indigenous Peoples Day Celebration in Whitehorse is a full day of events that celebrates what makes the Yukon Indigenous culture special. With games, food, dancing, an artist market, and live music, the day celebrates the heritage and contemporary way of life of the Kwanlin Dün First Nation.
